Well our Kiwis League Lunch was a great success, and a huge thank you goes out to David Kemeys, Tony Feasey and Gordy Gibbons, because without their help it could not have happened. More than 300 people were there to hear our MC, the former Kiwis, Samoa and Vodafone Warriors player Jerry Seuseu do his thing, and he was great.if your looking for a MC he is your man And of course without sponsors, well the whole thing would be rubbish, so to Lion and Glengarry, and NZME a huge Butcher thank you, and one to the Ellerslie Events Centre, who are just outstanding to deal with, too. What an opening to the RLWC 2017. The Kiwis v Samoa was a great game, spoiled by the idiots who invaded the pitch, something I have zero time for. What I do have time for, is Samoa fans. They were brilliant, adding colour and passion to the atmosphere. I was a bit disappointed by the crowd numbers, too many empty seats for my liking. And of course I was gutted by the injury to Gerard Beale, who I have been to see in the hospital, and he assures me his focus is now on getting right for the Warriors. While I was there I met with some of the Samoa players who had gone up to visit him, check out the interview on my Facebook page...Sir Peter Leitch. Last week I said on radio that Samoa and Tonga would be forces at the tournament, and while Samoa were a little off, Tonga flogged Scotland, who are next up for us in Christchurch this week, and they will be looking to redeem themselves. Samoa and Tonga meet in Hamilton at the weekend and there are tickets available so visit ticketek.co.nz. I urge all league people to back the tournament and the best way to do that is by actually attending a game. If, like me, you are going to be in Christchurch to back the Kiwis, check out Garry Clarke’s league museum, there is an ad in the newsletter. You won’t be disappointed. Enjoy your weekend. Sir Peter Charles Leitch KNZM QSM Chief NZ Ambassador for Rugby League World Cup 2017
