What a great break we had in Napier, where the weather was fantastic over the four days.
Friday night was spent watching the Magpies play Manawatu and the next day it was off to the races to support my mate Nino, who had sponsored a race in memory of his son who passed away last year.
On Sunday we all went off to the local markets, then on for a spot of lunch with my mate Rodney Green and his lovely wife Lena.
On Monday I spent the day with my grandson Reuben then went out for tea at another mate's place, so a big thank you to Clinton and Robin.
Tuesday we returned to Auckland to try to sell some more tickets to the MASSIVE rugby league day coming upon Saturday at Mt Smart.
The NZRL has our Kiwis, Kiwi Ferns and Junior Kiwis all playing on the same day, which is a first, so I am hoping Kiwi sports fans will come and support this very special event.
Some great things are happing at the NZRL under the leadership of our new CEO Greg Peters. For example, on Sunday he called a meeting of like-minded league people to explain what’s happening in the game. I spoke to three guys who I respect after the meeting and they were all very positive about the day.
Yesterday Kiwis coach Michael Maguire named his team and a new captain, fullback Dallin Watene-Zelezniak. He is a young man I have enormous respect for, and I am also stoked for Brandon Smith, from Waiheke, who will be making his debut. Congratulations to all those selected.
It's a massive weekend, with a lunch on Friday, then on Saturday I'm catching up with my mate Joey Johns before heading to the ground, and on Sunday morning I'm catching up with Rugby League International Federation CEO Nigel Wood for breakfast, then attending the Kiwi Association reunion.
Here’s hoping we get a great crowd to support the Kiwis.
GO THE KIWIS!!!
