What a time I had. Friday night at SkyCity for the Fanzone, with the Storm, Tigers and Vodafone Warriors all represented, but strangely, no Cowboys. Not sure why, but we still had a great time and SkyCity did a fabulous job. Then of course on Saturday I was at Mt Smart for the double-header and the Stacey Jones Lounge I host went crazy. There was a stag do, with the groom shelling out for about 20 tickets for his crew; four birthdays and a dozen or so people from Taranaki, and another dozen from Wanganui. There were even fans from across the ditch, with Storm fans deciding they needed to sample the joys of the lounge, and even a Tigers fan or two too. My special guests were a couple of good blokes I had met at Christchurch recently doing a charity auction for a good man named Chalky, and thee two stumped up $5000 or so for a weekend experience at a game with me. There are some good people around that is for sure, and I never tire of meeting them. Then of course, five from five, something never achieved at the start of the season by the club before and my smile was so wide I bloody near swallowed my ears. I needed a bit of a rest on the Sunday, but there’s no rest for the wicked as you know, so instead I attended a lunch with Stacey Jones and my two mates from Christchurch, and I have to say, tired or not, I had a ball. This weekend it is the Brisbane Broncos, coached by the best in the business in Wayne Bennett, who is a notoriously grumpy sort of a coot, and he’ll be unhappy his boys have lost two in row, so expect fireworks at Mt Smart on Saturday night, where it is again huge value for money, with all three of our sides at home. Bit of a tough week for me. A good mate is dealing with a son who is most unwell, another good friend should be celebrating the birth of a new baby but is instead at the neo-natal unit where his new arrival needs a lot of help, and of course my old mate Fergie McCormack, the All Black legend, passed away too. My thoughts are with all the families involved. If you are coming on Saturday night, you’d be mad to miss Dexter’s stadium tour, details in the newsletter. Also please don’t contact me asking to get into the Stacey Jones lounge, it is completely sold out and I can’t get anyone else in and that’s because of health and safety rules. Go the Vodafone Warriors, let’s make it 6 from 6! Sir Peter Charles Leitch KNZM, QSM
