Newsletter #220
Well the Vodafone Warriors NRL team may not have played over the weekend but our other two teams did, and both won, the Intrust team beating Wentworthville 39-6 and the Jersey Flegg team beating Parramatta 31-12, so a 100% win record over the weekend.
This Saturday the Vodafone Warriors play Manly in Christchurch and it’s a Manly home game.
A big shout has to go out to Justin Wallace, who has put the event on, and I hope the sports fans around Christchurch pack the stadium out.
The other big league news was Kiwi Ferns captain Laura Mariu named among the Queen's Birthday Honours. Laura was awarded the MNZM (Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit) for her services to league, and my good mate Nathan Cayless was appointed assistant coach to the Kiwis, while another good mate in Kelvin Wright got the Kiwi Ferns job, so a pretty good weekend for league.
Tonight it’s State of Origin and I can't wait for no other reason than to see Nathan Cleary, the son of former Warriors player and coach Ivan, take the field.
Nathan is only 20 and is fast becoming a super-star in ruby league yet he is a very humble young man who I have known since he was 12. I can tell you that he hasn't changed a bit.
Unfortunately I won’t be heading to Christchurch because I have been in bed with a bad cause of the flu, which is a bugger, but I will be glued to my TV cheering the boys on.
Enjoy your week and if you live in the top end of the South Island get to Christchurch and support the game and all the best to Steve Hansen and the All Blacks too as they face France.
