Newsletter #226

Well I've just had a fantastic week in Brisbane with my family. We had great weather and to top it of I went to two fantastic games of league. On the Wednesday night I went to the State of Origin game and it was a cracker, one of the best I have ever been to. The next day I rang my old mate Ray Warren (Rabbits to his mates). He is the voice of league in Aussie having called 90 games of Origin and he told me it was one of the best he had seen. Then on Sunday I went to Suncorp to watch my beloved Vodafone Warriors take on the Brisbane Broncos, who had beaten the Titans the week before 34-0, while my Warriors had got flogged 36-4 by the Panthers. So the big question on everyone’s mind was what Warriors team would turn up. Well as we all now know, we won 26-6 in a fantastic performance. The atmosphere was amazing and our wonderful supporters cheered and chanted the team on. It was a wonderful day and I was so pleased with the win that I even three beers that night. I want to thank all the fans who turned out because they were just simply amazing and there is no doubt they played there part in getting us the win. It was a shame the boys had to get straight out of the stadium to connect with their flight home, because I know many fans were disappointed they could not hang about and do pictures and autographs, especially after they had been so accommodating at the captain's run. While I was in Brisbane I interviewed a few ex-players, Chris Close (Choppy), who is a Queensland and Australia legend, Bernie Lowther (a former Kiwi), and Larry Corwa (a former Australian and Queensland player who was a Tigers legend and who played for a few Aussie clubs). Plus I caught up with a Mt Smart favourite from the days when he played for us, the Doctor, Jason Death. Then after the game I interviewed Warriors legend Stacey Jones. To view the interviews go to my Facebook page, sirpetercharlesleitch. I had a blast doing them and hope yo9u have one watching them too because they are all great guys with a real insight into our great game. this week I’m really proud of what the club is doing for charity. If we sell Mt Smart out the club will give our charity partners $50,000. I think that is a fantastic gesture from the club but we need the support of all fans to make it happen. My mate Shaun from Wellington is bringing 20 mates to the game to support the cause. So come on sports fans, make the effort because there is a fantastic day planned and a top game in store, with the visit of the Melbourne Storm, who we certainly owe one, with them flogging us 50-10 early in the year. I look forward to a sold-out Mt Smart on Sunday - bring it on, it's going to be a ripper. And don't forget to enter the Vodafone Warriors jersey giveaway in the newsletter. Good to be home, happy reading, see you all Sunday. Sir Peter Charles Leitch KNZM QSM
