What a fantastic weekend for the old Butcher. Firstly that sensational win on Saturday night with the Kiwi team, and of course the Kiwi Ferns, who although they did not win played the game of their lives and I believe they really put Women's Rugby League on the map with that performance. Our Junior Kiwis weren’t so lucky, but I thought it was a great honour to be able to watch our three national league teams in action on the one day at the same ground. Then on Sunday I went to the Kiwi Association reunion and what a fantastic day that was. Not only did the current Kiwis team turn up, but several former Kiwi Ferns and a couple of current players did too. It was a wonderful day with many tales and lies told. I feel very excited about the future of league because that Kiwis win gives us a platform to work on and our new CEO Greg Peters is doing a good job. It would be really nice if the Kiwis could bring home the trophy from the UK. As you read this they are in Dubai on the way to England for the three test series. This weekend Mt Smart will rock again! It will be a sea of red and white with the Tongan colours flying and those lucky enough to be going to the game will experience something that only happens when Tonga plays. The tickets went quicker than free sausages at a Mad Butcher barbecue, and that's great for international league. Unfortunately I’ll be watching the game on TV from Waiheke rather than at the ground. But it's time to catch up on some rest, and no, I won’t be going to the UK to follow the Kiwis either because I have some stuff going on in New Zealand that I need to be here for. Never mind, enjoy your weekend and make sure you tune into Tonga v Australia because I can guarantee it is going to be a ripper of a game. Sir Peter Charles Leitch KNZM QSM
