Well it was just what the old Butcher ordered, a Kiwi victory early on Monday morning. The Kiwis redeemed themselves with a good old-fashioned thrashing, beating England 34-0, which reminded me of 2004 when I was the Kiwis manager and we beat Aussie 24-0 in the Tri-Nations final at the same ground, a game Stacey Jones played a big part in, and on Monday morning Kodi Nikorima was on fire, earning player of the day.
I was really proud of the team as a win was so important for the NZRL moving forward as we rebuild the public confidence in the brand. The Kiwis arrive home on Thursday afternoon.
It’s been a busy few weeks. I’ve been down to Nelson, then last week I was in Wellington and today Janice and I fly to Napier for my mate Rodney Greens 70th birthday and that will be a four day marathon. He does know how to put on a party. For his 60th he took a few of us overseas for an unbelievable celebration.
I was up early watching the All Blacks England game and it was a fantastic test match and I’m looking forward to watching them take on Ireland this weekend. Unfortunately there is so much sport on Sky TV it would be very easy to become a couch potato. Our Vodafone Warriors are back training and I must say they look fantastic in the new 2019 CanterburyNZ gear I have ordered my gear for next year.
