Sometimes when you give you get more back - last weekend I went to Christchurch for a fundraiser for the Chalky Carr Trust, Gala dinner and auction. I’d never met Chalky, but throughout the night I heard he was a real good guy who unfortunately died of cancer. Before he died he set up a trust THE CHALKY CARR TRUST which is the reason why I was there. I had a fantastic weekend and was lucky enough to be hosted by the Canterbury Crusaders on Friday night. What an experience that was in the Corporate box with Hamish Riach their CEO. After the game I was taken into the Crusaders’ changing room; what an experience that was too. It’s certainly one I’ll never forget. The hospitality and the friendliness of the people in Christchurch was fantastic and at the fundraiser $150,000 was raised. I have to say, there was a lot of love for the Vodafone Warriors down there with All Blacks star Israel Dagg and few of his mates purchasing a special Vodafone Warriors experience package to come to a game and be VIP guests in the Sir Peter Leitch Club at Mt Smart stadium for over $5,000. Another fan was unlucky to miss out on the auction so then offered to match Israel’s bid so instead of one - we sold two AND RAISED OVER $10,000 WITH HELP OF THE VODAFONE WARRIORS. All in all, it was a fantastic weekend, topped off by a wonderful win for my beloved history-making Vodafone Warriors. I love the people of Christchurch. The spirit they have shown in really tough times has been an inspiration for me, so just being able to do something for them was a great pleasure. Sure I might have put up a prize and brought an auction item but as I say I got back more than I gave so thank you Christchurch. Finally good luck to Joseph Parker for his fight this weekend and of course go the mighty Vodafone Warriors! Sir Peter Charles Leitch KNZM QSM
